On January 10th, the Comfort Now Team visited 82 year old Joe Gallagher of Rio Grande, New Jersey to inform him about winning our 2017 Holiday Heater Giveaway.  Joe, a Korean War Navy Veteran, was overjoyed to learn he and his 58 year old handicapped son would be the 2017 recipient of Comfort Now’s Holiday Heater Giveaway.

Chosen from over 25 nominees, Joe and his son were nominated by their neighbors Charles & Kelly Dougherty. The Dougherty’s submitted the following story to nominate Joe and his son:

Our neighbor, Joe Gallagher is an 82 year old military man who is caring for his 58 year old handicapped son. They have no heat. The heater is broken and he is using space heaters and his oven for heat. This is a fire hazard and a safety issue for them both. Sadly, Joe cannot afford to get a new heater as he and his son are on a monthly fixed income and cannot spare any extra money. I think he would be a perfect candidate and I feel he is very deserving for the giveaway. Thank You Kindly, Charles & Kelly Dougherty

Bob McAllister, owner of Comfort Now, visited Joe earlier this winter (and a handful of other nominees) to collect more information on his difficult situation. Bob then provided details to the Comfort Now Holiday Heater Giveaway Committee who nominated Joe and his son. Comfort Now has been giving away a free heater each holiday season to needy families in the Atlantic County and Cape May County area for the past 4 years. The Comfort Now Committee felt Joe’s situation was so dire, they gave his a free air conditioning system as well!
