Having your heat break down on a cold day is a terrible feeling. You know it will need to be repaired or replaced, and you don't know how soon anyone from an Heating and Air Conditioning company will be able to come and take care of it. This Ocean City, New Jersey homeowner went through exactly that. 

It had finally started to get very cold out, and the heat stopped working in their Ocean City home. The technician came out on a chilly Saturday morning to take a look at what was going on. The first thing the tech noticed was that there were cracks in the heat exchanger. A heat exchanger is a part that will transfer heat between a solid object and a fluid, or from fluid to fluid. A crack in this part can be VERY DANGEROUS! Because of the process of the transfer of energy taking place here, if there is a crack it can lead to dangerous gas leaking into the home. The technician knew right away that this was a big problem, and a new system was needed to keep this home warm and safe. 

Problem: Heat stopped working, and there were significant cracks in the heat exchanger, making it unusable. 

Solution: Replacing the old equipment with a new Carrier System for heating and a new Carrier system for air conditioning as well. 

The current heating and cooling equipment in this home was pretty old. The heater was a 22 year old Carrier unit, and they also had a 12 year old Payne Air Conditioning unit. The heater had to be replaced, and the homeowner decided to upgrade the AC too while they were having the work done.

They decided to go with a new Carrier Comfort 80% AFUE single stage gas furnace with a Carrier 2 ton 13 SEER Puron outdoor condenser and evaporator coil. 10 year parts and compressor warranty with a 20 year heat exchanger warranty. Luckily, the homeowner qualified for a $4750 rebate on their new, energy efficient equipment! This significantly reduced the overall cost of the installation, and with additional financing, they are only paying $119 a month for their new equipment!

The other great benefit to this new equipment is how much LESS energy it uses. With their old equipment, the bills were average $350 a month to keep the place comfortable. During the spring and fall when the weather was mild it was a little less, but in the summer and winter the bills could get even higher! Now with their new equipment the bills are reduced by almost 50%! When you factor all of these things together, they are essentially paying the same amount of money they used to, if not a little less, and have brand new equipment keeping their home comfortable!
