Saving a Villas Homeowner Thousands in Bills Using Ductless Heating & Cooling

$650 a Month to heat the house in the winter using electric baseboard heating...

$400 a Month to cool the house in the summer using electric window units...

Clearly this homeowner was frustrated with their current energy usage when they contacted Comfort Now. They were even in the process of putting up solar panels on the roof to try and use some sort of alternative energy to offset these costs. This is a common thing we hear from people we work with a lot, and there are a few reasons that you can have unusually high energy usage:

  • Old Equipment - Sometimes equipment can be outdated and simply not be the right tool for the job anymore.
  • Broken or Un-serviced System - If your system is not 100%, it may be using extra energy to get the job done, costing you extra money.
  • Wrong Equipment - We often see people with the wrong kinds of systems for their home. This could be the wrong size, or type of technology being used. This can happen if the contractor recommends the wrong system, or a homeowner buys the system without expert advice.

They contacted Comfort Now and told us about their high energy bills, and asked us what they could do to bring that cost down. We recommended a Mitsubishi Zoned System, that will run extremely efficiently, and not have to keep the entire house the same temperature all the time.

Problem: Energy bills during the winter and summer were very high, and they needed a way to lower the energy bills while keeping their home comfortable.

Solution: Installing a Mitsubishi 5-Panel Ductless System allowed the homeowners to heat and cool their house in five separate zones. This efficient system will properly heat or cool whichever section of the home they want, quietly, while using up minimal energy.  The homeowner also qualified for a rebate and a 12 year parts and compressor warranty! They also received a 3 years of labor coverage from Comfort Now on their new system.

Installing a 5 Zoned Ductless System

The homeowners liked the idea of being able to heat and cool different parts of the house at the same time, while using far less energy to get the job done. They decided to go for a 5-Zoned System, meaning, there will be 5 different panels installed throughout the house, allowing them to heat or cool just that section however they would like it.

The family also suffers from allergies so they opted to go with the Triple action filtration including an anti-allergen enzyme filter. These units have the i Sensor 3D to enhance comfort control.

They had panels put into the living room, some bedrooms, and dining room/kitchen area. That way if they were only using one floor, or one part of the house, they would be able to keep that section comfortable, without wasting money on heating or cooling the rest of the house.

They decided to go with a financing option of $119 per month for their new system. They also qualified for a $400 Manufacturer's rebate. We were also able to offer a 12 year parts and condenser warranty because we are an Elite Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor. Comfort Now also gave them a 3 year labor coverage for their new System.

The homeowners were very excited about all of this, but what could they expect when it comes to their "New Look" energy bills?

Old System VS New System Costs
The Results:
When we took an estimation of the energy bills the homeowner was currently paying, it was said to be about $650 in the winter, and $400 in the summer. We put that at an average of roughly $500. After we had installed an energy efficient 5- Zone Ductless System, the homeowner says the bills dropped to an average of $150 per month!

So let's do a little math. If the average cost of keeping the house cozy was $500 during the summer and winter, and now it's $150 a month, what are we saving? Let's say that 4 months of summer and 4 months of winter costs, plus half that for the other 4 months.

Old System Costs

($500 x 8 months) + ($250 x 4 months) = $5000 per year

New System Costs

($150 x 12 months) + ($119 x 12 Months) = $3228

Savings from new system: $1772 per year

This means that they got a new system, which has more options, runs better, and keeps the allergy issues down inside the house... ALL FOR CHEAPER! Even though they are now paying a monthly payment on the new equipment, the new lower energy bills make the whole system more affordable, and the house more comfortable!
