Autumn means seasonal to-do lists for South Jersey residents: rake the leaves, bring out the heavy linens, decorate the house for Thanksgiving and get ready for the holidays. As you begin to winterize your home, it’s also the time to get your heater serviced before the colder weather has it kicking on more and more.

Thanksgiving has past, and now the winter is really upon us. We still haven't experienced very cold weather, and if you haven't prepared your home for winter, now is the time! Bob McAllister gave some heating tips to SNJ Today this week to help get your home ready for the winter!

For some people, there’s no better sign that summer’s coming than when it’s time to put in their window air conditioners. Yes, there’s nothing like the timeless ritual of dusting off and cleaning a few big, clunky machines, dragging them around the house and finagling them into windows — and hoping they don’t fall out.

Everyone has their own favorite time to get their shore home ready- and a lot depends on the time you will spend there this summer, and how much time it might be rented out to other vacationers. But is there a best time?
There are trends in every business, and HVAC is no exception. The trends this year should be no great surprise- they emphasize energy efficiency and home automation!
Heating your home can be an expensive proposition, especially if you have an older home. We know many people who are just tired of the yearly conversation about whether they should buy their heating oil up front or as they go through the Winter. It feels like a yearly game of roulette where their budget is on the line. Things are similar for those on propane as well- the worry about keeping the tanks filled has caused at least a few sleepless nights.
If we asked 100 people, "What's the worst thing that can happen to you on a really hot day?", I'm sure the number one answer would be "Have my air conditioner break down." Note: We really like the Family Feud.

Bob E. in Ocean City gave Comfort Now a call about cooling the second story of his duplex. He had used Comfort Now in the past for replacing the broken A/C in the first floor of his duplex, and to help get rid of the mold around his system in the past.
This time Bob was concerned that the second story of hus duplex wan't being properly cooled in the summertime. When we came out and took a look at the system, we realized that the ductwork wasn't set up properly, and there was only 1 thermostat controlling 2 areas. One area, the back bedrooms, was properly cooled and comfortable. The second area, the living room and kitchen area, were not so cool.
One strange but common thing we see in some shore homes is MOLD growing around the Aor Conditioning Unit. Bob E., a customer who we help out regularly, had this exact problem in his Ocean City Duplex. He noticed all the mold and knew it was something he had to take care of, especially since he likes to rent his place out at times, so he know that something had to be done quickly.
Some may think that this is due to a lack of caring, but really this is a common occurance in Jersey Shore Island homes. The reason is because the warm humid summer air hitting the cold A/C air, in a spot that has ventalation to the outside, causes mold to grow.
We knew this was going to require some investigating...
